 Lowry won many awards for her work on The Giver.

• In 1994 Lowery was given Newbery Medal by the Association for Library Service to Children
• In 1994 he was given Regina Medal and In 1996 he was given William Allen White Award
• The Giver was named as "Best Book for Young Adults", "ALA Notable Children's Book", and "100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990–2000."
